The role of the coating engineer is directly 'Customer Facing', serving customers and supporting the Technical Manager, project sites and other departments for technical & quality related issues for all CRCE project coating work. This position helps to ensure that CRCE coating systems and documentation obtain approval for use on projects and with clients. Representation of CRCE at site and at client meetings to deal with, advise on and close out technical & quality issues is also a prominent role of this position.
Education Required:
- Degree level in materials, chemical engineering or similar is preferable.
- NACE qualifications preferred but not essential.
Skills & Knowledge required:
- Excellent understanding of client project requirements demonstrated through the ability to draft, review and provide technical input into PQT’s, ITP’s, application procedures etc.
- A broad knowledge of what is achievable with regards to the capability of the applied FJC systems in terms of test criterion and equipment capacity to ensure alignment with client expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- A working knowledge of the relevant international standards and client specifications.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, Project)
Work Experience Required:
- Pipeline coating experience is essential.
- A working knowledge of the pipeline industry and coating application / testing processes is preferable
Key Responsibilities:
Tender Input
- Perform thorough reviews of Client documentation and assess requirements versus historic performance and material capabilities.
- Produce any necessary technical clarifications in requisite format.
- Provide test matrices per client specifications / known material capacity, to ensure all requirements are met and accounted for.
- Advise suitable material selection to meet specification requirements in a cost-effective manner.
- Attending internal and client meetings as required.
- Communicates with tender team to ensure all outstanding actions and comment responses are concluded in an efficient and professional manner.
Post-Award
- Produce project technical documents such as ITP’s, APS, Test Methods, Data Sheets, PQT Plans and Reports amongst others.
- Assist project planning with documents submitted per agreed dates.
- Liaise with any 3rd party laboratories for testing, ensuring SOW is clear and executed on time and on budget.
- Draft project technical notes such as NCR’s, NOI’s, and TQ’s as required.
- Communicates with customers to ensure all outstanding actions and comment responses are concluded in an efficient and professional manner.
- Attending internal and client meetings as required.
- Interaction with the various departments within the project team including equipment, logistics, supply chain, and operations.
- Coordinates project QC equipment requirements internally with supply chain and workshop.
- Produce technical input for project briefing document to ensure a smooth transition from tender and PQT to site operations.
- Manage the communication flow for technical matters from site to head office ensuring the business is aligned in terms of performance and support.
- Provide technical support throughout the project life cycle to our site teams and other HQ based functions as well as client teams.
- Attending site for key project PQT’s, site startups and other critical operations.
- Support the site team with project planning to ensure customer schedules are not delayed for technical matters.
- Continuously monitor and help drive project performance and achievement of KPI’s such as zero safety incidents, zero rejects and repairs etc.
